GamFratesi: A Beetle’s Story

Heavily influenced by a combination of Scandinavian and Italian design, GamFratesi was founded by Danish architect Stine Gam and Italian architect Enrico Frates. While their two styles and cultures are juxtaposing, Gam and Frates found a unique way to compliment one another’s distinct backgrounds and fuse two entirely separate blends of tradition and modernity. GamFratesi aims to design furniture which reflects the meticulous process required to create their exquisite pieces. One of their most iconic pieces, the Beetle Chair, was patently inspired by the body and structural build of a beetle. The insect’s hard, durable shell and soft interior inspired the designers to create something with the same bold exterior yet comfortable feeling. Established in 2005 by Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bungaard Rutzou, Space Copenhagen is a design studio globally known for interior design, art installations, and unmatched art direction. Komplot Design: Experience and Intensity

Founded in 1987 by Danish architect Poul Christiansen and Russian industrial and graphic designer Boris Berlin, Komplot Design continues to leave an impressionable mark on the design industry. Based in Copenhagen, this talented duo partakes in product and furniture design as well as graphic design. As a multidisciplinary brand, the designers understand the importance of looking beyond the surface and communicating traces of meaning in their pieces. Louis Weisdorf: Specialized in Versatility

Graphic, interior, and industrial designer, Louis Weisdorf, was one of the youngest artists to graduate from the Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1954. His creative interests appertain to a variety of domains, including amusement park design and recreational area planning. For nearly a decade, Weisdorf worked alongside Simon Henningsen to install original lighting fixtures at the Tivoli Gardens amusement park in Copenhagen. Weisdorf’s pendant lights and fixtures are best known for their intricate designs of overlapping material. As an artist and a researcher, he has always been intrigued by the relationship between light and those who observe it. He values experimentation and exploring new elements of design. Greta Grossman: Sweden Meets California

For over forty years, Greta Grossman paved the way for design in North America and Europe. After completing her art education and marrying a jazz musician, Grossman and her husband emigrated to California in 1940 where all of her wildest dreams came true. Shortly after their arrival, Grossman opened up her own shop on Rodeo Drive and seamlessly allured local celebrity clients. Her authentic yet luxurious approach to Swedish modernism was incredibly well-received by the design community in Los Angeles, putting her unique pieces in the hands of many buyers. Over the course of the next twenty years, Grossman’s work was featured in museums like MoMA in New York and The National Museum in Stockholm. Gio Ponti: Italian Mid Century Modern

Italian architect, designer, and publisher Gio Ponti was one of the most influential artists of the 20^th century. With over sixty years of creative contributions, he is now considered to be the Father of modern Italian design. Based just outside of Florence, Ponti launched his career by collaborating with a number of artists on a variety of projects. One of his most noteworthy achievements was designing the Pirelli skyscraper in Milan. We know and love his work for being striking and geometric while simultaneously emitting luxury and timelessness. Ponti’s most recognizable pieces with Gubi are the F.A. 33 Rectangular Wall Mirrors in gold and black brass and the stunning Randaccio Antique Brass Round Mirror. Pierre Paulin: Recognizable and Innovative

Pierre Paulin was a French furniture and interior designer. Heavily influenced by both Scandinavian and Japanese design, Paulin assessed a multitude of shapes and colors in his unique designs. In the late 50’s and early 60’s, Paulin joined Dutch manufacturers Artifort where he was able to fully explore his creative capabilities. One of his most famous pieces is the Pacha Lounge Chair. He utilized flexible materials like foam, rubber, and lightly built frames to mold each masterpiece.
